Acceptance of the Holy Spirit

Receive first time the Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation is acceptance of the Holy Spirit and a renewing of your Baptismal vows since you reached the age of reason. It is the sacrament that roots Catholics more firmly to Jesus Christ, strengthens their ties to the church, and helps them stand firm in their faith when facing life’s challenges and while serving others.

Confirmation completes the “Sacraments of Christian Initiation” with Baptism and Eucharist.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites for confirmation candidates are:
• already baptized
• received the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist
• must be in 9th grade and above
• participate in both Youth Ministry and a separate process for Confirmation
preparation
• Been enrolled and attend a minimum of two years of Religious Education
• Complete 40 service hours
• Participate in a retreat experience

For more information on the Confirmation process or are interested in becoming a Catechist, contact Michael Fierro at 904.786.1192 ext. 228 or mfierro@mhrjax.org.

Sponsors

It is ususally suggested that the Confirmation Sponsor be the same sponsor as for Baptism, however, that is not always possible, and the candidate for Confirmation may select someone of their choosing that meets the following criteria.

Sponsors are 16 years of age or older who:
• received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation
• regularly attends Mass and participates in other Catholic worship
activities
• has a good relationship with the candidate
• able and willing to participate in the Confirmation process, including
attending Mass and other activities with the candidate
• willing to openly share and discuss his own faith practice,
understanding and experience.
