Baptism Preparation

Do you have an infant or child under the age of 7 that you wish to have baptized?

Preparation classes are offered for parents seeking the sacrament of Baptism for their infant children. Baptism Preparation Classes are held in the Religious Education Building.  Please email Michael Fierro to arrange a baptism class. Sponsors are encouraged to attend as well.

Godparents

The Godparents’ role is to assist the parents in raising their children as Catholic Christians, primarily by their personal example and prayer. To be a Godparent you must be:
• A practicing Catholic,
• Have received the Sacrament of Confirmation, and
• Be at least 16 years of age.
• If not a member of Most Holy Redeemer Parish, must provide Letter of Eligibility to be a sponsor from their parish.

Ceremony

Water is used during the Sacrament of Baptism because it is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. The Sacred Chrism is a perfumed oil. When the Priest anoints the one to be baptised, he asks God to bless them with all the necessary graces to achieve a Christian life.

The white garment represents putting on Christ. During the ceremony, the priest will proclaim that this garment is the outward sign of Christian dignity.

The parish will provide a candle, which represents the light of Christ. After the ceremony it is yours to keep as a reminder of this joyous milestone. The candle can be burned on Baptismal anniversaries and when the child receives other sacraments in the future.

If you have questions or want to learn more about infant and child baptism, classes are scheduled by appointment.
